Troubleshooting PLC Circuits 1

Troubleshooting PLC Circuits 1

On November 3rd we finally released the much anticipated Troubleshooting PLC Circuits 1 program. It took a lot of work to get such a great product out the door, but based on the response from both our Beta testers and first wave of users, it’s safe to say that it was worth the wait.

Below are some highlights the new title.

What will you learn?

  • Learn how to determine the operation of PLC circuits using ladder diagrams, wiring diagrams, input/output schematics, and data sheets.
  • Learn how to monitor and change settings in ladder programs using a laptop.
  • Learn how to identify defective input, output, and control modules using the multimeter.
  • Learn a variety of specific techniques for diagnosing malfunctions in circuits containing any PLC make or model.

What kinds of simulations are included?

  • More than a dozen hands-on labs to understand PLC operations.
  • 12 practice exercises and guided faults on a basic PLC controlled circuit.
  • Three unique PLC circuit troubleshooting scenarios.

Maybe the best way to learn about the program is to watch this quick video so you can get a better idea of the circuits and what’s in the program:

NTI Trade Show Success!

August 10th, 2011

From July 29th to 31st Simutech Multimedia was in beautiful Ann Arbor, Michigan taking part in the NJATC’s National Training Institute (NTI) Trade Show. The NJATC put on a fantastic event, and we are honoured to have been involved in such an inspiring weekend.

As our first trade show exhibit, we weren’t completely sure what to expect, but it can easily be declared a huge success. After months of planning, everything went smoothly and we had a great time meeting Training Directors and Instructors from all over the country.

Getting a chance to get our simulations in front of people was exciting and really showed us that we are creating something that trainers in the electrical industry not only want, but really need! It was great to meet some of our customers and talk to them about how much they love the software!

5 Ways the Simutech Course Manager Can Help Your Training Program

March 2nd, 2011

So it’s already March, and I have yet to post an entry here. Better late than never I suppose. We have been busy working on a number of different projects here in the offices of Simutech Multimedia to start 2011.

One of those projects being a video about the Simutech Course Manager software. As we were going through this program, picking out the coolest and most useful tools it offers instructors, I thought it would be a great idea to post a list of the 5 ways it can help in a training program that is using the Troubleshooting Skills training software.

For anyone who isn’t aware, the Course Manager is a specially designed learning management system that is an integral part of the Troubleshooting Skills Training System that comes with the Enterprise and Education Editions of the programs.

It helps instructors, trainers, and supervisors get the most out of the Troubleshooting Skills software by putting powerful tools at your fingertips so you can easily manage and customize your troubleshooting training and track and evaluate the results.

1. Easy User Management

User Management

User Management

You know that whether you have five course participants or fifty, effective management is important for your training program. The Course Manager gives you complete control and makes participant management an effortless task. From modifying individual accounts to setting up groups for classes or departments, you can organize your participants to fit your training.

2. Custom Testing

Custom Testing

Custom Testing

The Custom Test feature gives you the flexibility to adapt the Troubleshooting Skills programs to your training course by modifying how participants work through the faults. If you need to condense the training time or want to test a specific skill, you can easily create your own specialized tests in a few simple steps. Choose up to eight faults to add to your custom test, including Guided, Practice, and all difficulty levels including Extra and Genius faults. By giving you the power to build as many tests as you want, the software can be tailored to your needs.

3. Modify Program Settings
You can also customize the participants’ learning and troubleshooting experiences by modifying program options, such as allowing hints after unsuccessful attempts and selecting the meter use and safety feedback they see while troubleshooting in the simulations.

4. At-a-glance User Evaluations

Evaluations

Evaluations

An important feature of any successful training program is the monitoring and assessment of participant’s skills. The at-a-glance Progress Reports give you a snapshot of each participant’s progress, with completion dates and times. You can pull up User Evaluations to see summaries of their troubleshooting, including attempts taken, errors made, and scores.

5. Detailed Results Reporting

You can also generate six detailed reports with performance-based results data to help you accurately assess skill development and detect key areas for improvement. Displayed in a spreadsheet format, these comprehensive reports can be printed or exported for use in another Learning Management System.

The Simutech Course Manager helps you manage and structure the Troubleshooting Skills Training System to fit your training program. It helps you track and evaluate your participants with tangible performance-based results. It helps you deliver valuable and effective electrical troubleshooting training, ensuring your participants learn the skills they need for success outside the classroom.

5 Great Things That Happened in 2010

December 8th, 2010

I can’t believe that it’s been another year. It seems like it was just yesterday that we were closing out 2009.

We’ve had another busy year trying to keep up with the demands of our customers, who have come to expect only the highest quality of training software from us. We spent a lot of time this year talking to many of our customers, gathering feedback and opinions of our products, and implementing improvements to our software.

We also have been getting many requests for new training programs, and have been keeping track of all the ideas from our customers, so that we can continue to develop programs that will provide the industry with the training they want, and need.

As we close in on the holidays and get ready to usher in a new year, we have put together another list of 5 Great Things That Happened in 2010 here at Simutech.

Without further ado, I present to you with the top five stories from 2010, in no particular order.

1. Troubleshooting Motor Circuits V4 Named EC&M Product of the Month
This actually appeared in the December 2009 issue of EC&M, but we didn’t get to include it in our top 5 list from 2009, so it’s been added to this year’s list. The year started out with a bang, with Troubleshooting Motor Circuits V4 appearing as the featured Product of the Month in EC&M.

There was a great write up on the program, which included some customer insight into the title. If you have the December 2009 issue of EC&M lying around you can read the article, or you can check it out online.

2. Troubleshooting Skills Series V4 Named EC&M Product of the Year Category Winner
The next big new item came in March, when we found out that our Troubleshooting Skills Series had been chosen as the winner of the Computers and Software Category of the 2010 EC&M Product of the Year Awards.

The category winners were on display at Electric West and voting was done online by EC&M readers to choose the top 3 products for the year.

3. Troubleshooting Skills Series V4 Named EC&M Product of the Year Gold Award Winner
Yes, the EC&M readers liked what they saw from our software, and voted it as the Gold Award Winner in the Product of the Year competition!

Being the 1st runner up in a competition of this magnitude, against all the other high-calibre products out there, really showed us that our programs are making a difference and helping the industry as they were intended to.

More information about this award can be found here, here, and here.

4. New Release of Versions 4.1 and 1.6 of the Troubleshooting Skills Software
Not satisfied with the programs that had already won so many accolades from various people, we spent most of 2010 talking to our customers and getting feedback to improve the software.

We took a step back and looked at the products again with a fresh perspective, and implemented many changes that our customers had been asking for. We released the new versions, 4.1 and 1.6, of the software on October 27th.

More information about the new release can be found here, and here.

5. Launch of the New Troubleshooting Skills Website
In conjunction with the new updated products, we also completely revamped the Troubleshooting Skills website. We started with a totally new design and rebuilt the site from scratch, to help improve the online experience of learning about the programs, and what they can do for our various types of customers.

Here’s the new look site.

So there you have it, the five biggest stories from the Simutech world in 2010, and so many of the great things that have happened have been thanks to our dedicated and loyal customers.

Here’s looking ahead to another great year in 2011, where we can continue to work together to create better troubleshooting training!
